Sixth Form trip to The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre

On Wednesday evening, A-Level Drama students attended an incredible production of Lost Atoms by Anna Jordan. The students were captivated by Frantic Assembly’s distinctive physical theatre style and the way it powerfully highlighted the play’s underlying themes of connection and the barriers that exist within relationships. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had a really memorable evening.

FAC Band Performance

As part of the SEQR process, inspectors visited the Music department on Tuesday to observe our choir rehearsing. The choir were working on Mas Que Nada and we were extremely fortunate to have Maria Paz and Anahita supporting the rehearsal by teaching the students Portuguese. The choir worked with great focus on pronunciation and diction, demonstrating real commitment and progress. The rehearsal was not only productive but also very fun and lively, with excellent engagement from all students.

On Wednesday, the inspectors returned to observe one of the bands rehearsing Oscar Winning Tears by RAYE. Our visitors were blown away by the exceptional talent and musicianship on display. The band consisted of Ruby Morris Y13 (vocals), Zac Ahmed Y12 (drums), Henry Bajelis Y10 (bass), and Katie Romanenko Y9 (piano). It was a fantastic rehearsal, showcasing both individual skill and strong ensemble work, and left a very positive impression on all who attended.

Enrichment Talks

Next week’s talk for Lower Sixth students will be in the form of two PSHE workshops. One will be on Consent in Relationships and the other on Gender and Sexuality. We will divide the students between the two sessions and then next month the sessions will be run again, so that each student has a chance to attend both. These are important matters and the workshops will be run in a sensitive way to prompt thoughts and discussion around the topics. This event is compulsory for the Lower Sixth.

Art Trip to Tate Modern

A-level Fine Art and Foundation students will go on a tutor-led visit to Tate Modern next Wednesday to see ‘Theatre Picasso’. This exhibition explores the Spanish artist’s lifelong interest in theatre and performance. Works on display include paintings, textiles and photography. Picasso’s multidisciplinary approach is one that our students have been encouraged to embrace in their own studies.

Cross-curricular talk

Next Thursday, Larry, one of our Science tutors, will give a gross curricular talk on Evolution and Genetic Engineering:

Using genetic engineering, we explore a profound philosophical truth: life survives the unknown not by being perfect, but by being different. We show how cells intentionally scramble their chromosomes to “hedge their bets” against disaster, proving that in an unpredictable world, diversity is nature’s ultimate insurance policy.
