Welcome from Candy & Emmy

We had a very successful Open Day this week with families visiting Fine Arts at 2.30 and 5 pm. They were given introductory talks with video footage in The Law Theatre, followed by student-led visits to classes in progress (at 2.30) and discussions with subject tutors (5 pm). Our Year 9 student, Katie, introduced the talks with lovely piano recitals. The theatre was full for both talks and our visitors very much enjoyed their introduction to Fine Arts.

Enrichment Talks

On Tuesday, Candy will give a talk on the artist Charlotte Salomon and her masterpiece Life? or Theatre? She made it between 1940 and 1942, and it is a unique blend of painting, text, and theatricality, making it perhaps the first example of the graphic novel. Charlotte Salomon, a German-Jewish artist, made it shortly before she was deported and killed in Auschwitz aged 26.

Year 12 Trip to Marie Antoinette Exhibition

On Wednesday, our Year 12s enjoyed an inspiring trip to the Marie Antoinette exhibition at the V&A with their Fashion & Textiles teachers Jo and Kerri. The exhibition allowed them to step into Marie Antoinette’s world of lustrous gowns and elaborate lifestyle! The visit visually enriched their contextual studies in a creative way, and provided stimulating
class discussions back at college.

Upcoming Trips

Next Wednesday, the sixth form students are going to see a production of Lost Atoms at The Lyric Hammersmith Theatre; a play produced by Frantic Assembly and directed by Anna Jordan.

The plot is a timeless story which explores how love shapes our lives and how we remember it. Frantic Assembly use physicality as a language to convey emotions and narratives; focusing on movement and expression to highlight themes and ideas. With five-star reviews, the performance promises to be a highly effective piece of theatre.

Congratulations to our Year 9 student, Katie

We are so proud of Katie Romanenko, Year 9, who recently achieved a distinction in ABRSM Grade 8 piano. Katie started to play piano 7 years ago and after 3 months had her first concert in her Russian music school. Katie attends Junior Trinity Laban music school on Saturdays and is an active participant of extra-curricular music at HFAC.
