Our GCSE programme provides the perfect preparation for the specialised study of the Sixth Form years. We provide a wide-ranging and balanced curriculum, in which students take up to 10 subjects over a period of one or two years.

Subjects are chosen from four basic faculties within the GCSE department – Humanities, The Arts, Mathematics and Science, and Languages: see our faculty pages below for more details of the individual GCSEs on offer within each faculty.

Our GCSE courses are taught in small classes (usually eight or less) so that each student receives a proper amount of individual attention. Lessons take place during normal school hours (Monday to Friday, 9am-4pm) and some homework is normally set for every subject each week, which can also be completed in College during supervised study periods if the student wishes. Students are expected to approach their studies responsibly, but are also closely supervised to ensure they are getting the most out of the College’s programmes and are on course to achieve their best possible grades at GCSE. Achievement is high, and Fine Arts College has a particularly good record of improving student performance based on previous attainment.

The College also aims to promote students’ personal development with a comprehensive PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic education) course; a varied programme of weekly sports on selected afternoons; and talks by outside speakers on a variety of subjects, including opportunities for further study, personal development, and careers in the arts and humanities.

All students also see a Personal Tutor for an hour and a half per week for general academic advice, and to address any worries that may arise (either from the student or following feedback from other teachers and Directors of Studies). This ensures that students have a formal space in which to discuss and address problems.

Students are free to create their own portfolio of GCSE subjects, choosing at least one from each of the faculties below.
