‘A hunch is creativity trying to tell you something’ - Frank Capra

Students explore all aspects of the moving image with a particular emphasis on narrative learning how to create an emotional attachment between filmmaker and viewer. Students are given practical 'hands on time' to hone their creative skills, explore different styles and find their own distinctive voice.

Students have the opportunity to make several short films using state-of-the-art film making equipment and editing suites together with professional sound production facilities. Students concentrate on themes of visual language, interpretation of a text and inventing narrative and also explore aspects of performance and mise-en-scène.

There are also complementary sessions on film and television culture, both contemporary and historical, and opportunities to learn from the work of more established directors through master-classes and set visits.

Students have the opportunity to see their work screened at The Everyman Cinema in Belsize Park.

Engagement with other art forms is a crucial aspect of the course and interaction within disciplines is encouraged with students exploring the connection of film to visual art, literature, architecture to installation and performance art.
