LUCY POPESCU
For the last 20 years Lucy has been involved with the international association of writers, PEN. The experience she gained from the Writers in Prison Committee at English PEN convinced her of the power of protest.
Since then she has used the effect that letters of appeal can have to fight for prisoner releases, improvements in prison conditions and to lessen the likelihood of torture.
Lucy writes a monthly column called Silenced Voices for the Literary Review and regularly contributes to the Human Rights section of the New Statesman.
Since September 2007, Lucy has published three books, most notably Another Sky, a collection of writing from prison, including autobiography, letters, poems and pieces by Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the National League for Democracy 2007.
