Liam Watson is the founder of the ToeRag studio, and he remains the resident producer and chief engineer. The studio began setting up in 1991 predominantly as an analogue recording studio.
Liam got started in recording by playing in a band and working on his own material at home. However when he had the idea to open a purpose-built studio in the early '90s, he made a bold decision to specialise in vintage analogue recording as supposed to embracing DAT and digital reel-to-reel machines.
Over the course of 12 years, Toe Rag Studios has built up a collection of analogue hardware, and this has resulted in Liam achieving the retro number one album Elephant with the White Stripes in 2003. Unusually, the media was remarking on the way the music had been recorded as much as the music itself.
