After two decades on the sidelines of the contemporary-art world, Alex found his calling in the shape of Raven Row Gallery, a major non-profit art space, situated in an 18th-century grade one-listed building tucked away in Spitalfields. Raven Row’s programme is intended to appeal both to a specialist audience and a broader, curious public. The opening show, on the radical American Pop artist Ray Johnson, Alex not only curated but wrote the accompanying essay too. Other exhibitions include the works of Thomas Bayrle, Ann Lislegaard, and Ultra-red in2009 produced through a process analogous to elasticising – stretching, squeezing and transforming.
