Examined in June 2009 and June 2010
Examination Board: Edexcel

Music A Level is an opportunity for students to gain considerable experience in all aspects of this field. The course caters to a wide range of students’ interests and backgrounds. For example, the A2 student taking a route to a traditional degree course may opt to take three Areas of Study in the Western Classical tradition (e.g.: Sacred vocal music, Keyboard music and Music for small ensemble) with composition techniques in Bach chorale and Renaissance counterpoint. An AS student who plays in a rock band may prefer to opt for Areas of Study in Popular music and jazz, and 20th and 21st century art music combined with composition techniques in 32-bar pop song and electro-acoustic music.

Grade 5 music is required.
