Examination Board: AQA
This is a creative one year course where you will become a designer working with textiles using a variety of techniques and materials.
Syllabus:
2 Coursework assignments
1 Exam piece (with 4 weeks preparation time)
You will use a sketchbook/ sketchbooks throughout the course for observations, drawings, ideas, samples.
Techniques covered may include batik, tie-dye, silk-painting, printing, stencilling, hand and machine embroidery, embellishment (decoration), simple weaving.
You can make a wall-hanging, cushion, bag or simple garment such as a kimono, camisole or wrap. You will also learn how to customise your clothes, knit and create an original scarf.
The three pieces of work will be based on particular themes and/or designers/artists which will be discussed with the tutor.
There will be a minimum one visit to either a museum, gallery or exhibition for example, a designer’s studio or the Knitting & Stitching Show (which takes place in October).
