Latin GCSE appeals to a wide range of students as it involves not just learning a language but also studying the literature and finding out about the history of a culture whose legacy is still with us.
FINAL EXAMINATION
PAPER 1 _ Language
This paper consists of a momentum test i.e. an unseen passage divided into two sections from comprehension
and one section for translation all of which must be attempted.
PAPER 2 _ Verse Literature
The poetry set text is Virgil’s Aenid IV. Two questions will be set on two passages on the Aeneid.
Both questions must be answered.
PAPER 3 _ Prose Literature
The set text consists of two selections from the Cambridge Latin Anthology. Two passages with questions involving translation and comment will be set. Both must be attempted.
PAPER 4 _ Roman Life
Three topics are chosen from a list of eight to be set. Candidates must answer on one topic out of these three.
The eight topics are: Daily life in Roman Society ; The Roman Army; The City of Rome; The Structure of Roman Society;
Women in Roman Society; Roman Britain; Roman Religion; Roman Provincial Government

Coursework can be offered instead of Paper 5 of 3000 words on one of the eight topics.
