Examination Board: OCR
In 1919 the ‘Big Three’ victorious powers of World War 1 – Britain, France and USA – made peace with Germany. ‘Never again’ it was said, would such a destructive war be fought. Just 20 years later, however, an even bloodier and more terrible conflict began. How and why did this Second World War come about? Why had attempts at international co-operation and collective security proved such a failure?
We shall also be studying Nazi Germany from 1914-45, and from June 2002 the board has introduced a new paper on Britain from 1906-1914.
For coursework, we shall be examining Britain in the First World War, and focusing on the Battle of the Somme.
