This course offers a broad introduction to the ancient Greek and Roman world with the opportunity to focus on many different aspects e.g. The stories of Gods and Heroes, The Olympics, Roman Gladiators, the daily life of women and slaves.

PAPER 1 _ Social Topics
Two topics about Greek/Roman society are studied from a selection that includes
Greek religion – Gods and Goddesses
Greek Dramatic and Athletic Festivals – The Olympics
Greek Art and Architecture – The Parthenon
Sparta – A military society
Roman Sport and Entertainment – Gladiatorial games

PAPER 2 _ Greek and Roman Literature
Two literary topics are studied from a selection that includes
Homer’s Iliad – The story of Troy
Homer’s Odyssey – The wanderings of Odysseus
Greek Tragedy – Heroes and Heroines versus The Gods

COURSEWORK *
Students do one project (3000 words) or two projects (1500 words each)
on a subject of their own choosing.

* Students may prefer to do another topic on paper 1 or 2 instead of coursework.
